Joanna Woś’s practice oscillates between the realm of the subconscious and the meticulously analyzed visual layers of historical paintings, often drawing from them and applying past symbolism to bring to the fore notions of repression, shame and emotional trauma. Her images rest disquietingly on the border where parallel realities interpenetrate amidst an air of desperation, raising questions about love and death, desire, longing and loneliness.
Joanna Woś (b.1991) - lives and works in Vienna. Studied at Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw (2016-2018). She currently studies at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien in the class of Daniel Richter (2018-).
