For Chilean artist and educator, Patricia Domínguez, ethnobotany (the study of how people from certain cultures use indigenous plants) provides a springboard for her artistic practice. Trained in contemporary art as well as in traditional botanical illustration, Domínguez assembles futuristic totems in which our interconnections with plants are explored and given meaning.

I don't understand exactly how it works, but in a way plants open the door to the spiritual world. It's a different form of science. They are different keys for the same door. Last year I did research for a project at Cern in Switzerland. I would like to bring in a more open vocabulary that connects these two spheres: on the one hand Western science, such as quantum or particle physics, on the other hand shamanism and the plant world. There are two ways to get the same result.
